As mentioned previously in my previous post, I had decided that this short trip to Guyana was not about exploring my surroundings, but in fact, feeding my travel bug, relaxing and just catching up on friendships.
My last-minute booking was at Bransville Apartments, in Georgetown. With the reasonable pricing and the extremely helpful and friendly staff, I had a wonderful stay. Great customer service, from my initial booking phone call, to the smooth check-out process and transport arrangements to the airport, upon my departure.
With the hotel ‘taxi driver’ on speed dial, we were able to visit and see around the capital city, mainly for our meals. We visited the Hibiscus Restaurant & Bar (Saturday Lunchtime), the Bottle Restaurant at the Cara Lodge (Saturday Dinner) and the Oasis Café for Breakfast on Sunday Morning.
Although we visited the Hibiscus Restaurant & Bar during the lunch period, it wasn’t bustling with patrons The lights were dimmed inside, with just enough to be able to enjoy your meal. The service was average with no major complaints. We each ordered an appetizer of ‘Crab Backs’ and our main courses which included Sautéed Shrimp and Fries, Curry Goat and Rice and Stuffed Eggplant and Fried Plantains. The food was very tasty and left us extremely satisfied.
For Dinner that night, we asked for recommendations of a ‘nice restaurant’ and were directed to the Bottle Restaurant at the Cara Lodge. The food was okay – not the best especially for the price range. We felt some disappointment with this restaurant and the service. Our menu included Honey-Glazed Salmon and Grouper; both with Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables, and Chicken Alfredo.
To make-up for our disappointment of the previous meal, the taxi-driver took us to the Oasis Café for breakfast the next morning. This café was patronised by both locals and visitors throughout our time there. Except for when the electricity went (for about 2 mins) the wifi connection was strong and consistent, making it a favourable location to relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, and catch up with loved ones.
Even though the Oasis Café has a some-what fixed menu (see below), the food was great and the coffee-of-the day was delicious!!! I ordered pancakes with scrambled eggs which came with a divine maple syrup.
I am so glad this ‘spur-of-the-moment’ trip occurred and very happy that I got to catch up with my dear friend…
It’s now back to reality, but hopefully the planning of another trip is in the very near future…
